27" tires - What & where?

I was given an old Raleigh roadie about a month ago, and finally got around to doing an initial strip & clean over the weekend. From my very quick research, it appears to be a mid-70's model with 27"x1.25" rims with Schrader valves.

Can someone recommend a good tire for these rims?

This bike will mainly just be a "for fun" bike & grocery getter. It doesn't need super-light race tires. Something middle-of-the-road with good comfort & puncture resistance would be just fine. (If it were a 700c rim, I'd probably get something like 700x25 Armadillos, or the like, to give you an idea of what I'm looking for.)

Anywhere have particularly good prices for these?

Thanks.

Steve

I have an old road bike with 27" tires. Pretty much all I could find at a couple LBSs was generic, cheap, gum wall tires. They suck pretty bad but, both shops told me that I'll have a tough time finding good ones because it is an obsolete wheel size. But I'm sure they're on the internet.

Gatorskins can be found in 27" size. Check Nashbar.

Gatorskins or Panaracer Pasela TGs. I recommend the Panaracers, the TG model have great puncture protection and you can often find them online for real cheap.

I think Specialized has a 27 inch Armadillo.
