Radial Laced Superbe

I just got a bike with suntour superbe pro hubs, and the front is radial. I've come across some pictures of these hubs cracking at the spoke holes when laced this way. (as well as other hubs) I don't care about any (if any) advantages to radial lacing, and would much rather the hubs last... so my question is should I re-lace them?

Sounds like your mind is made up. Relace. But you will need new spokes. If you aren't going to rebuild the wheel yourself, perhaps you could sell the wheel and buy ones you like better.

I would do the work myself, and I like the wheel a lot!

^ I thought I'd read that. So worse to re-lace again, especially into a new pattern then to leave as is??

I would keep the radial and leave as is. I've have relaced hubs but they were of no special importance.

what is the danger in relacing a hub with a different pattern? Is it the spoke paths left behind? If so, would it be ok to go from radial to 3x since the paths wouldn't overlap?

The flanges have been stressed now in that direction, so they should stay laced that way. That being said if you just tensioned them and never rode them I wouldn't worry.

Superbe flanges are rather strong, I wouldn't worry much either way. They are nowhere near as weak as Record high flange hubs

I got the wheelset used, so I've ridden them this way, and they've been this way every since they were first used... which was who knows how long ago. I just don't want my new babies to fail

There's a thread on here somewhere with a guy who's front and rear superbe hub flanges cracked outward from the spoke hole. The front was radially laced, and the rear non-dive side... and it cracked in these places. He said his friend had a superbe too, and they check his and found the same thing. ... soooo ?

I find that this way I get more varied opinions? Can use info from one to progress the conversations in the other? ... Actually if I hadn't just automatically posted in here first, I'd have just gone for the Mechanics, but this way I can see which forum knows more...

Okay... well, sorry, but um, do you have an opinion on relacing the hub?
