Welp, that was very very enlightening. Got fitted to the bike, and was surprised at exactly how poorly everything was set up -- saddle height and angle, mostly. Also got some bullhorn bars to replace the track drops.

Looking forward to riding the bike the way it should be ridden!

track bikes = comfort machines

oh wait, they should be the most likley bikes to injure you from poor posture and positioning while riding them for practial transportation.... not meant for anything more than a quick jest

a nice seat, some properly positioned bars and a good fit will lessen this, but don't expect magic from the pain machine.

just ride the pony and take it like a man, or give up and buy an old three speed

ps: risers are pretty damn comfy if you ask me, if the bulls dont suit you ( they put me to haunched over for town riding ) grab some off of a friend and try them out with some nice grips, but they arent as race oriented as the other bars mentioned in this thread so you will loose some sprinting power, but w/e

I find it pretty hard to be comfortable on track bars since the only place you get decent width is on the shoulders of the bar (where the bar curves) but since it's such a steep curve your hands tend to slide and then all your weight goes on your hands/arms/shoulders = pain
I know this isn't the answer you're looking for but I'd either stay away from track drops or have them just for shorter rides. You could always try a shorter stem and less saddle to stem drop, but it's cheaper to just buy some bullhorns/riser.

I hurt my shoulder at the gym (bench press) and riding made it worse. Same exact location on the shoulder. Giving any back pressure when pedeling made it worse so I heavily relied on my brake for a while (especially if I was in drops). I ride drops but switch about 50 50 between the top and the drops. I gave it rest, ice, advil, and have health insurance so I got some rehab and and a rubberband thing. Works great now. Sounds like you got it figured out but thought I would let you know your not crazy
