Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Chicago Ride, update...

For all y'all Cheegawgoans, you missed a nice ride....

Started off at the 'Cock, worked our way south through Chinatown, Pilsen, UIC, West Loop, stopped for a bite to eat at Windy City Cafe, Chicago and Ogden...breakfast was tasty..

We ran into the group of fixies headed up to Milwaukee tonight for the Alleycat......wished them well..

Headed back into the loop to watch CPD (several hundred, at least) get dressed in full riot gear..that was fun...Watched the protest, took some photos..

Clay will be posting pics soon, and Clay wins for coming the farthest (Evanston).

Im not sure what he wins, but we better make it something....

Oh yeah, it was me and Clay...only two people..that's okay....the sun was out, nice day...

Clay, next time I'll take the train up north, and we'll do an Evanston loop...cool???

I did my own ride this morning... beautiful weather. There were a bunch of folks on bikes out downtown too, and that's a real change of pace. I'm so used to seeing a ton less people out riding and often having the street to myself.

Beautiful weather today in Chicago. It's shocking that it was just snowing two days ago!

It was a great ride! I had a blast with a great breakfast and then a great time watching all the protests! It was almost a perfect day for rideing, until I turned my bike northward at around 3:15 and that evil headwind started up! That thing was brutal.

There were a few interesting bicycles at the protests, one looked like a pedi-cab but instead of a seat up front it had a t.v. with a loop of George Bush talking on the screen. There was another one there that had a side car welded on, it was pretty cool. I tried to get some pictures of them, I'll see if they turn out.

It was a great day for a ride, lots of great wandering around the city. I had a blast, anytime anyone wants to head out, just holler!

We CAN break this record of two showing up for a ride!

Wish I made it out... Did have a short ride to the coffee shop and enjoyed it. ALthough, when I headed out I was sweating, but when I left to go home, I was freezing... In celebration, I have composed a haiku:

Heated pulsing ride
Goofy Chicago weather
Freezing now I ride

It makes it crazy difficult to dress in an appropriate manner. When I leave, I'm nice and warm and after a bit I am freezing.

Nice and sunny out and snowing to beat the band.
