Food Delivery NYC on Bike (how much $$)
So I am in a bit of a jam and need a solid part time job, I just applied for a job delivery food at a busy Italian restaurant near union square. I remember reading somewhere on here that you can do pretty well considering people living in the city ordering expensive food are rich and tip well. What can I expect to make (ballpark). $200 a night? More? Thanks!

200 a night. please. did you forget we are in a recession. Depends who you work for. HOw much the items are. Union square is full of college students and those morons don't tip. Busy nights working for a pastis in the meat packing district was maybe 120. busy nights working in williamsburg were maybe 180 to 220 but those were far few and in between.

right, well its pretty pricey italian food. they have a restaurant in times square as well, so i suppose i could request to work there as people will probably be better tippers. honestly $120 a night does not sound that bad, $200 would be more like it, but even $120 would help me out right now.

yeah people are getting rich from delivering food -- that's why so many folks quit their lawyer and doctor jobs and buy one of these:

The idea that rich people tip well has about as much basis in reality as the idea that Jesus spent his boyhood days riding around on a Triceratops.

ohh rich people are not that amazing at tipping. You might get one or two great tips from them. Julianna more once gave me a 4 dollar tip on 90. Dumb *****.

well i dont know, i always give the guy like 3 bucks, regardless, even if i only ordered 10 bucks worth of food, i still give him 3. i think a lot of people do this. anyway, not trying to get rich, as stated above just looking for a job for a month, two at the most, than i can bail and move onto this job that is more career related. its just in this city you can not really sit on your ass for a month, got to make some money to pay rent/bills or you will demolish your savings.

I did burrito deliver in PDX. 10-15 percent tips was the standard. I'd do like 2-4 deliveries a day which worked out to be $20-80. Typically, people tip way more if they're writing a number down on a receipt, and way less if they're dealing in actual cash.
I had a couple customers who never tipped, so I made sure to hit every pothole and hop every curb while taking my sweet time before I got there. Corporate office workers with $$$ by the way, not dirt poor college kids.

yeah, that's where you stop, spike the burrito on the ground, repack it and keep going
maybe see if you can find a stray hypodermic needle on the ground and stab it a few times and make sure the plunger is all the way in

I wish I got tipped more than once in a blue moon. I should switch from delivering envelopes to food. Man, I friggin love getting tipped. One time, my buddy was delivering from a pharmacy to a residence (usually people that are terminally ill and can't make it to the store) and he got tipped with a bong hit.
