upgrades

i'm pretty new to biking and i was wondering what were the best cost effective/necessary upgrades on a stock bike (08 khs flite 100). suggestions?
thanks

You'll probably want to add a brake. Other than that, just ride it until things start breaking/wear out/you notice they are uncomfortable.

A bike fit wouldn't hurt.

The stock pedals usually suck.

I like MKS GR-9s for street shoes, but I almost always ride clipless now, on Time ATACs.

Didn't you get the e-mail? Deep-V's are back with a vengeance, mirrored finish ftw.

+1 on the GR-9s

Most stock bikes can use a new stem, handlebars, pedals and saddle. But heed Huerro's advice to ride until you see a need to replace a given component if you value thrift.

the most important thing for fixed gears is the drivetrain especially if your not running brakes....but most of stock parts should last you awhile....

I think the most overlooked upgrade is tires. Most stock bikes come with garbage tires. Get a nice front and as nice of a rear as you can afford to replace on a somewhat regular basis. No matter how nice the rest of your bike is if you've got cheap tires it's going to ride like a k-mart special.

thanks for the advice, what are good? price range about 30 i would say haha. i have an armadillo in the front, i guess thats ok but the rear is about at the end of it's life.

Are these 2 any good? I need a red tire.

I'm riding an 08 KHS Flite 100 too...so far I've changed the pedals, the chain, and the cog and I cut my steering tube down...next upgrade should be the saddle because it sucks (Selle San Marco Ponza LUX)...other than that it rides pretty smooth all stock...handling is a little twitchy/very responsive...the stock brake works well...

as for necessary upgrades:

definitely new pedals and saddle and depending on your terrain and riding style a new cog or chainring...everything else is fine as is and changing them is pretty much personal preference or needed maintenence...my bottom bracket started to click after a few months of riding up hills...
