Bikes Direct bike converted to Townie?

Depends. Do you consider your townie to need a rear coaster brake? If so, you'll be replacing your hub. Else, any of the BD bikes with brakes work. Do you need to fit fenders? If so, I think the fantom uno is your only choice, as the other ones don't have a lot of clearance. Uno's got canti's also, which leave you with a lot of options for tire size.

the only thing that's "townie" about that bike you posted is the bars(and arguably the brooks).

i have townie bars on my bike, and occasionaly refer to it as my townie, but it's a light nimble track frame w/tight clearences and track ends.

townie is in the eye of the beholder.

You can mount a rear rack to the Messenger as well. Although I've never seen a townie with hawt orange paint.
