Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

First fixie ride this week

Finally got my fixed gear build assembled to the point of being ridable this week. Went 15 miles on a familiar loop. What a blast! I built with no brakes so I could get the full experience. I was able to stay in control the entire time. I even goosed it a few times. I had one steep-ish downhill that required a hard left at the bottom and that took some thinking, but I pulled it off. What absolute and total fun. I wish I knew about fixed gear bikes long before now. I am so late to the party. Track-stands and backwards circles - here I come. It's kind of like learning to ride a bike for the first time - again.

Please excuse child-like excitement.

Mike

Your child like excitement is accepted and encouraged. The great thing is that the feeling never wears off.

51 more days until my fixed gear conversion is completed. (Wheelset for Christmas)
I cannot wait for it to be completed. One week til everything except wheels are done.

clipless - i put on a set of those spd-on-one-side-flat-on-other because they were handy; i'm only 1.5 years into clipless; i used cages and straps long before that; i'll be trying out cages too

I know exactly how excited the OP can be. I too recently finished my first build and between work, "honey do's", the kid's schedules, I can't ride as much as I'd like.

When I do ride, I always have a blast. I need to learn to not smile as much when I ride, looks like I stole something.
