In my city of 30000+ I am pretty sure I am the only one with a beach cruiser, and soon to be the only one with a fixie. Everyone here is hooked on their Mercedes and BMW's, it makes me hurt inside :(

Cynikal 10-24-05 09:46 PM

I may have to drag the SS up there to do salmon falls again or maybe up to cool. Been a while since I hit the dirt.

jpdesjar 03-19-08 12:55 PM

tons of fixies in richmond, va also...saw a bunch when i visited there
nice ones to owned by kids who have rich parents and can buy them best track bike...better than cars

Cynikal 03-19-08 01:40 PM

Wow, old thread and I still haven't taken out the SS in a while.

hudsong 03-19-08 02:01 PM

I see quite a few on and around campus here.. probably a total over over 15 if I count my friends.

jpdesjar 03-19-08 02:11 PM

wicked old
anyway, lots of bikes out there

lns55 03-19-08 02:16 PM

I see a lot of fixies around Cleveland. Interestingly enough the last two fixie riders I talked with were young ladies.

What's with all the necro threads, lately? I appreciate people using the search function, but how did anyone find this in the first place?

This thread is hilarious, because there was apparently some time in the recent past, a time which I'm sure no one here remembers, when the sight of a fixed gear or single speed bike was rare enough to warrant a mention to strangers on the internet.

New thread: Random NON ss/fixie sightings

Talk about rare.

Awesome. This guy has been at it since was a messenger in Boston...(89-93)....glad to hear he's still kickin' it. damn I feel old.

ahand 03-19-08 03:02 PM

the1amradio 03-19-08 03:31 PM

I've been seeing a new fixed every week here on campus (Roanoke College) since about mid-February.

I joined this forum in 04 because there were no local riders that I knew. Now you can't throw a can of PBR without hitting a track bike in Sac.

Seems like with the warmer weather there are a lot more fixies running around town.

likeaHorse 03-19-08 06:30 PM

I see fixed gears both on my commute to and home from work everyday, as well as in the bike parking area. Not an uncommon occurence here.

Also some people were talking about people trying to look like messengers. I think most people don't associate that look with messengers here, they simply associate it with people who ride bikes.

Messenger bags and knickers are pretty much convenient when you're around town on wheels.

maddyfish 03-19-08 06:59 PM

I have seen one cyclocross based SS or FG(not sure which, he never coasted) here in northern Ky., I caught up for a minute, and then turned off.

Agreed. I have a pair of knickers I wear for mtb, and they're great. I have a decent sized messenger bag, it too is great. Granted, I would NOT wear tight jeans converted into capris via scissors, a little racing hat, and a messenger bag that could fit two cases of beer all at once.

i see alot of people riding fixed or ss. its just hard to get my friends to ride me. my little pity story

I basically just don't like riding in tight jeans at all unless I'm taking my time it mashes my junk and gives me no circulation in my legs. I'm not into the little hats either.

I will definitely be getting a huge mess though, I'm trying to go car free so I'll need it.

That said, I spotted a fixed gear with a middle aged woman on it. I <3 PDX. It was actually a pretty decent bike though looked well taken care of.

She gave me a cougar smile at the stop light, *shudder.

I get excited when I see a red or black derailleur, that isn't making any sound.
