No you don't. That wheel is THREADED for a standard cassette, much like the wheel off of an old 10 speed.
That wheel in post #1 is threaded for a standard FREEWHEEL.

The link above is for converting a newer FREEHUB from multi to single speed. What you need is this. It will thread right onto that wheel and you will have yourself a singlespeed.
Or he gets a flip/flop rear wheel and throws that shimano freewheel on there. So in pictorials you either have: http://www.nexternal.com/icycles/images/sl3wheel.jpg and http://www.trails-edge.com/retail/bi...spacerkit2.jpg or http://harriscyclery.net/merchant/37...echformula.JPG ^ built up obviously, and http://www.trails-edge.com/retail/bi...shimano_fw.jpg |
Okay so I have a 72 schwinn collegiate, 3 speed 27" back wheel, but a guy at a bike shop told me 700c WILL fit on it, so if i want to convert to single speed, easiest and most efficient way to do it would be the guy who said "this and this" in post 3? or could i just get the shimano thing + the wheel i picked out?
please help and thanks a lot to the ones who have helped |
so i cant use thison the wheel i found? that looks a lot easier and a lottt cheaper, and i would really prefer to do that. and could someone find a front wheel taht matches the back wheel i found?

Wrong.
That wheel in post #1 is threaded for a standard FREEWHEEL. This would be a non-ideal approach to getting a singlespeed. You can't just slap on a freewheel on the wheel in post #1 and expect it to work without chainline issues. If the OP wants to do it properly, he either gets a cassette rear wheel and a singlespeed kit, exactly as depicted in post #3. Or he gets a flip/flop rear wheel and throws that shimano freewheel on there. So in pictorials you either have: |
