Fixed Gear for Commuting -- Soma Rush?
I ride 20 miles a day round-trip -- I'm considering getting a Soma Rush frame and building it up.
I've been commuting for about a year on a fixed gear Peugeot conversion with generic, bottom of the barrel parts -- I need something quick but sturdy for Seattle roads -- I want decent parts but I'm going to have to build from scratch and I've got about $1200 to spend. Is the rush a good choice? I'm looking at a Sugino RD2 crankset, and hand building the wheels w/ Surly track hubs and Mavic Open Sport rims for the basics. I think I can get this all in for around $1200 without a nice saddle which I'll pick up in a month or two. Any help/suggestions appreciated, thanks. |
I have one and a lot of people drool over it, I think mostly cause it is rare around these parts. It rides much faster and stiffer, not too mention lighter, than my late 70s Schwinn traveler conversion. I like that the decals are low key as well. So, I have no complaints, but I have not ridden a lot of other fixed gear bikes either. Take it for what its worth.

Cheers, thanks -- I've heard generally great things about the Rush which is why I'm interested -- the price is right.
