Stripped lock ring/hub
 

So I stripped the hub on the lock ring threads today on my rear Aerospoke...anyone ever heard of this? It's a new wheel and I don't know if they'll cover it (I just emailed them tonight) but I've never even heard of this. I'm pretty sure it was installed correctly, not really a lot of ways to do it wrong. It was nice and tight and I don't think I'm capable of over tightening it. It was a nice Dura Ace lock ring as well if that matters. I'm just wondering if you can over tighten and if this is a fairly common occurrence or a freak thing.

usually that happens when things loosen up. you backpedal and it gives the cog some momentum to unthread and smash the lockring right off the threads

Did it strip when you were first installing it or after you rode it a few times?
DA lock rings are usually legit, not like those cheap alloy formula lock rings.
How many full revolutions did the lock ring thread on before it made contact with the cog? Sometimes you cant use some cog/lockring combos with some hubs. One time I tried a crappy "godspeed" cog and lock ring combo we had at the shop on my phil hub but I could only get 1 and a half threads out of the lock ring. If I tried to tighten it I would strip it and my hub would be toast.
This isn't usually the case but it can happen.

BTW, I highly doubt that they'll over it under warranty.

It went on quite normally...a few full rotations and it was snug up against the cog. Aerospoke is going to cover it (I'm sending it off tomorrow). The cog and the lock ring were originally installed really tightly but I do run my chain with a little bit of play (to avoid too much friction) but not so much that it'll jump off during skids. Maybe I'll try a little tighter and check it (the lock ring and cog) every couple of weeks or so. I'm definitely going to be a bit nervous about this happening again. It's not a fun feeling skidding at fairly high speed down hill in heavy traffic feeling your cog slip. What sucks is that I was really starting to get all of that down and I don't need that in the back of my head.
