Sanding a carbon fiber fork
 

I have a carbon fork I want to put on my bike, but it says fuji like a zillion times all over it. Could I just sand it down (wearing a mask to avoid breathing in the dust of course, there are enough things in me to give me cancer, don't need any more) or is the clear coat part of the structure? I don't wanna paint it, but may just wrap it with something. I normally wouldn't care if it only said it once, but it says fuji 6 times, and has the fuji badge painted on twice.

I have done this to carbon forks and carbon stem. I used the green scotch pad on the back side of a sponge over running water: great results with a uniform matte finish. I don't suggest sandpaper because of the risk of over sanding and potential for inconsistent sanding. The clearcoat is cosmetic but it does protect the carbon weave structure from water and UV rays. After removal of the logos, I used a Armor-All like protectant called Formula 303 which is originally an auto interior UV protectant.

I would not. With most carbon products the top epoxy/resin layer that contains the graphics/color is instrumental in the integrity and strength in the finished material.

Not exactly, the strength of carbon fiber comes from the epoxy resins in between the weave structure. The clearcoat is just that.

Yeh, for safety, if I were you I'd check out getting some vynl or something to wrap the forks with.. Can peel it off and clean it after if you change your mind..

They do it to cars + buses - even saw an r8 and Carrera GT wrapped in vynl

Wouldn't add as much weight as paint, but you can cut out a shape that compliments it, and blocks the logo's if you still wanna see your weave..

I think I'm gonna wrap it with vinyl or something. I decided I may want it back of the fuji I took it from some day. Thanks for the input.
