hate on my white chain, blue tires & risers. o and my fake seat as well.
this is my first build. 1973 schwinn world traveller converted into single speed w/ the rear brake cable routed through the frame. i used to duplicolor auto paint for all the parts. shaved & bondo'd all braze-ons and kickstand. i wanted to build it on a budget so i kept the following stock:
frameset
wheels
OPC crank (yes shes heavy but solid)
pedals
stem/headset
brakes
seatpost
freewheel (off my old gt bmx)

i tried to find the cheapest possible parts to complete it:
46T chainwheel (painted white to cover bmx logo) - $10
chain (yea its white) - $10
tires - $40
brake levers - $8
seat - $10 (synthetic ofcourse)
cork grips - $10
brake cables/housing - $12
origin 8 risers - $30

total project cost - appx. $175

I think it looks awful. That white chainring especially. Put back normal tires, a decent chainring and chain, and i'd ride that.

It's like a classy townie trying to be tarck. I'd put some gumwalls on it, polish the chainwheel, and get a regular chain.

But I kinda dig it.

Now the frame looks like just some random steel frame (with a hole in the top tube). The old one was more stylish.

The rest of the bike isn't my thing either, but it's impressive that you did it so cheaply.

i would have loved to not have to repaint it but it had a sufficient amount of surface rust and the braze-ons had to go. painting it gave me the option to sustain its condition for quite some time, most certainly longer than the original paint. as for the the frame appearing random...i could care less. i used bmx parts, paying homage to schwinn roads was out of the question.

I hate that stock stem. Ugh...

It's justified because I too have a glitter gold Kilo with way too much reach.

I hate that you have it and I don't, and that it isn't 100% matte black.

wow. The only thing I don't like is it being a bike picture-by-the-pool. It's a silly pet peeve of mine.

Its a top tube protector, in case the bars flip around and hit the frame. Saves a dent or scratch.

The fact that you're telling him what to do with his track bike and you don't know what that thing on the top tube is tells me you shouldn't be telling people what to do with their track bikes.

Just bought for $400, I know the stickers aren't appealing. I also have a different saddle and seat height, if that matters.
