Well, if it ain't fixed, it's broken. j/k Who cares? As long as you're out riding, it's all good.

Fixed gear bike has the cog screwed directly onto the hub so there is no freewheel mechanism, you can't coast- though technically speaking a fixed gear bike is also a Single Speed bike since it only has one gear.

However what is generally referred to as a Single Speed bike, or SS, is a bike with a freewheel screwed onto the hub which allows you to coast.

if its such a stupid post, why would you waste your time clicking on it, reading it, then responding to it.

I was just curious what people thought, no harm in asking....is there (and there may be, we shall see)

I usually try to stomp on them when I encounter them on the road.

Dustintendo 11-21-08 06:34 PM

Not really. Every person has their own priorities and a different bike to meet their needs. Riding fixed is fun to me, hence it makes the most sense for me based on my needs (ie: fast, simple, fun)

I used to look down on SS riders when I was stupid and new to learning about fixed gears, but I've since realized that was a childish attitude to have and made me something of a dork to have such an attitude. Nowadays I couldn't care less what someone else is doing as long as they aren't crashing into me

Before we get to the answer, can we distinguish between the "pure fixie riders" and the impure fixies riders? I am quite baffled between those two groups.
