Make sure you are riding with clips and straps. Have fun!

right now i ride 48/16 and have a 19t EAI cog im putting on soon.

I ride brakeless in Manhattan, NYC. I hit a few hills but have pretty solid control with a 48/19 (same EAI cog). Have only been riding brakeless for 3 weeks, give or take.

i was riding in seattle last month at 47x17, no problem. ridden there a number of times since i lived there for 20 years. you just have to pay attention and not be a knucklehead. that said, figure out what is wrong with your bike and put a brake on. the convenience is nice, if anything.

See, I've yet to learn to skid yet, so I've been terrified of riding brakeless on hills. I need to learn to skid.

Just remember to lean over the front... way over the front. Try it stopped next to a wall, you won't be able to tip yourself over the front with just your weight while your feet are in the pedals, take a position like this while moving and your back tire WILL start to skid.

Wow, any hills that he rides up? That's gotta hurt!
