what should I get from Japan?

A friend of mine is returning to Tokyo to visit family in December. She asked if there was anything I wanted her to bring back. Any tips? I would be interested in bargains mostly.

Contrary to popular belief, there really are not any "bargains" out here.
Since it is seasonal and it is the season for it, I say get some Gorohachi sake. It is a very sweet sake that you can only get during this season.

Whale meat.
It's popular there.
I've heard it's very tasty too.

My brother-in-law says they don't exist anymore.
I never bothered to ask him how he happened to know this.

I was thinking something that my friend could carry in her baggage. Toshi straps, for example. But if the price is practically the same as they are in the states, then I guess I'll just ask for that bottle of sake the previous poster recommended.

no, I think you're an idiot because of your lack of understanding of Japan. You seem to think it's a third world country of total destitution and no opportunity. You could not be further from the truth. You should spend less time trolling messageboards and more time reading books and talking to strangers.
