Shoes for clipless/cageless pedals

Hi All --

I'm running some nice MKS pedals on my fixed gear that I use for everything and I'm wondering if you have any recommendations on sneakers/shoes that have great grip for the old-school-type pedals with teeth -- no clips or cages used.

I don't like using cages so I'm really just looking for suggestions for a great sneaker if you have any. Anything you've used/currently use that works well? These shoes will get trashed so I'm not at all concerned with aesthetics.

Cheers

Are you running a brake? if not you really need toe clips to properly stop. Not skid, but to backpedal.

okay, preaching lesson over. Many use indoor soccer shoes, but I like running shoes when not running clipless

People seem to like Sambas.

Really, anything with a stiff-ish sole and not too much going on on the uppers (stuff that can get caught in the clips and/or straps) should work fine.

cages =/= clips!

learn *****!

I do run a front brake --

Sambas, huh? Sounds good -- I'll check them out -- haven't had a pair of those in years.

Sorry delorean -- I think you're confused or something.

No he is not, unless you're just using the spindles.

These are cages:

ah, I see --

I second the Samba recommendation...I have two pairs, and while they do take some time to break in, they are among the most comfortable shoes I own, and are stiff enough to allow for decent power transfer.

skate shoes. gravis vans etc....

dcraver 12-01-08 07:26 PM

i'll assume you're talking about shoes for riding, just with toe clips and straps, and not clipless shoe/pedals. i always wear vans authentics, because they're cheap, flexible, light, and very thin/low profile. when i try to ride in other shoes, they seem too big and bulky. i'll also reccomend the vans skate hi's but those have got caught in my chain before, i guess if you cut off the inside part on the right shoe, you're golden, but all these shoes work best once you break them in after about a year or so.

Clarks Desert boots! Squishy but stiff sole. Amazing grip and comfort.

hahah maybe he can just jam that platform by the rear tire instead of using a brake or pedals to slow!
