New truvativ system?
Now, I know most of you are die hard fixie riders, but what if you were to use this new truvativ front system. You could still run a fixed gear, but you would have two options for when you have a big hill to go up or down, depending on your needs.

tldr: make a fixie that actually has two gear ratios

Sometimes you're right and you sound like a feminine hygiene product, and sometimes you're just a feminine hygiene product.

i like the HammerSchmidt - it's a really sexy setup.
but it won't cross over to the fixed-gear market until it's available with bigger chainwheels. the highest available effective gearing is a 24/38 - great for mountain bikers (the target market), but not so much for most street riders. while i run a 36-tooth chainwheel on the street, i've never found myself wanting a lower gear.
if you really want a multi-speed fixed gear, buy one of the new Sturmey-Archer S3X hubs when they're released - 160% gearing through three steps. all fixed.

The Schlumpf High Speed drive is already out and can handle full torque in both directions (aka used on Fixed). Not sure if the Truativ system can.

Can speed-drive be used with a fixed wheel cycle?
No. In reverse direction, there musn't be full load. It's o.k. for actuating a coaster brake, but not for high torques during long operation periods.

In spring 2008, we offer a new clutch with symmetrical design. This clutch allows full torque in both directions of rotation.

Also, it's worth nothing that Schlumpf has a model similar to the Hammer Schmidt (small integrated chain ring for bottom bracket clearance) coming out called the Triebwerk

Quoted directly from the HIGH SPEED DRIVE (which is the product I linked to):
Please be sure to do your research before correcting someone.

Easier to ride a road bike and less convoluted. You want to make it easier to climb? Run really low gearing or get a multi-geared bike. Fixed is about the simplicity of the drivetrain, good idea just in the wrong section of the forum IMO.
