Fixed gear size ??
I am thinking about building a fixed gear. I have a 56cm road bike and I was wondering, should I look for another 56 for the fixed or should I maybe get one a lil smaller?

Haha, okay, before someone destroys you for asking this question ...
Size is obviously related to your own size personally. No one can tell you what size bike you need without knowing your proportions.
That having been said, if you ride a 56cm and its too big for you, then maybe go for a 53cm.
Fixed vs. geared makes no sizing difference, in my experience. Same size in both works fine for me.

That is what I thought but most of the fixed gear I have seen around me have seats that seem really high. I didn't know if it was normal to ride a smaller fixed or not. Thanks for not flaming me!!

What is your hat size? take that number multiply by 4 and divide by pi and thats the magical fixed gear bike size for you

it all has to do with the geometry of the frame....many newer frames have sloping top tubes & this is why you may see some extra seatpost.......or people dont get the right size bike for themselves..... or they think having their ass way up in the air is "aero"
your most important measurement should be the top tube, not the seat tube. measure the top tube on your bike now (if it's comfortable for you) & get one with a similar measurement, the seattube should be pretty close to what you need if the toptube length is right. your LBS can also help you out with this as well, but make sure to buy something when you go in (like a tube, or gloves) they will help a customer more than a dude coming in for free advice.

If it's a track bike/geo, go a cm smaller than your road bike(assuming it's a proper fit). If it's more road oriented geo, then same size.

Smaller is better for track bike frames.

I ride a track bike with 54.5cm top tube which fits like another bike I have with 56cm top tube. The reason the effective reach is the same with these two frames is that the track bike has steeper angles.

As of now I am looking for an old 56 becuase I am not gonna put drops on it and it will be road use only.
