Weird issue with my crank? (drive side)

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Weird issue with my crank? (drive side)

long story short-

I have a schwinn fixed gear conversion, originally just used the stock chainring up front for a while- chainring bolts got loose and the chainring ripped off one day- they didnt have any bolts that would fit it-

so I ended up getting this "dotek" crank- its for a bmx bike, and I bought that because I was planning on riding my comversion up until the holidays and then getting a track frame-

this is the crank , see how its a 2 piece?

this one : (random picture from the internet)

after everything was installed and I rode for about a week with no issues-

I was practicing track stands one day and noticed that I could move my cranks back and forth with out the bike moving back and forth-

I checked out the drive side crank, and noticed I could move the cranks with my hands and the drive side would have some "give" and can move back and forth a little bit (couple centimeters of movement)

so it was not staying fixed with the piece that connects to the chain ring.

is this my fault for cheaping out and getting a 2 piece bmx crank, or should this not happen either way,
and should I take it back to the shop and complain?

my cranks are not loose at all, they have no wiggling at all-

any help would be great

Sounds like the bottom bracket possibly has issues, that is, if the stack bolts are tight.
Yes I would take it back to them for a diagnosis, They should check it out for free if they just sold you the cranks.

you know what-

when I am pedaling sometimes, ever since I had that incident with the chain ring ripping off, my bottom bracket isnt as "smooth" as it was before?

it feels like it has this "tick" in it sometimes?

arrrg, I hope I dont have to get a new one, this shop charges a bunch for labor

Well it's called a three piece crank, the third piece being the spindle. What you have pictured there is two pieces of the three piece crank. It sounds like the drive side crank's square hole (where the spindle attaches) may be stripped. The problem with the "tick" is wear in the bottom bracket. Take it to a shop for an overhaul.

I just checked again,

and I can deff. move the drive side crank with out the part that connects to the chain ring bolts moving back and forth a little bit-

but when I do move the drive side crank, the left crank moves with it- so I dont think anything is stripped.

because if it was stripped, would I be able to move the drive side crank a little bit with out the left side moving?
