My better-half green lights Custom Pegoretti Pista Purchase!

Yup, after several months of begging she finally said ok to my wanting, and lust for, a Pegoretti Custom Pista Frame. Only concession however is she wants to take a trip to Europe, kind of a "you get to have your stupid bike, we get to take a trip to Europe". I said fine, this will give me a chance to get customed fitted by Pegoretti as well.

We won't be making the trip probably for another six months. Then a two year wait, less If I get lucky!

THe paint will of course be a custom "Ciavete" paint job by Pegoretti himself. No way would I spend that type of money and get something custom from him without it being totally unique.

As for componentry I have no idea what to put on it except for maybe CAMPAGNOLO cranks and wheels?

Any real suggestions will be taken into consideration.

I know when it is finished and delivered I won't want to ride, being to scared to take it out. One part of me will just want to hang it up on my office wall because I know it will be a piece of artwork.

Waste? HAH!

I know its a grip of duckets. But come on man, its an investment. Its something I will be holding onto for a very long time and if I ever choose to sell it after Pegoretti is gone I know I can what I paid for it and more. Especially with one of those custom paint jobs. Besides I would rather have a bike that is a piece of art compared to having a frigen painting hanging on the wall.

Well, some people pay thousands of dollars for art that looks like something my 2 year old nephew could draw. Good luck.

Dario and I approve your decision.

Don't pay any attention to people that don't understand how sweet his rides are.

BTW you ignorant pukes, It's CAMPAGNOLO(not Campy).

and you sure know how to come off like an arse...but to each his own i suppose.

i'd much rather invest in a peg than in pbr and dickies, but that's just me. then again, you could get a whole ****-ton of beer/clothes for the price of a peg.

i wouldn't do a pista though...responsorium maybe? i suppose your nephew can weld/braze like dario as well?

how's dario doing these days? sure you're gonna see that bike?

Dario is doing well. His cancer is in remission and he's building bikes again. It's what makes him happy(it shows in his works).

Dario is truly a treasure. I cannot imagine the cycling industry without men like him.

the photo of Dario and I was taken at Interbike 2008. I think he looks pretty healthy. Talking with him was fantastic. He thanked me for writing on his get well card last year, and gave me a big hug.

i agree that if you are going to use campagnolo for some parts, use it for all. a mix of parts would be a waste on a bike like this... especially if you are considering it an investment.

Campagnolo Record.
Everything.

I'd go vintage with the look...Leather saddle (brooks if you like them), Leather sewn on bar wraps, Vintage quill track pedals with clips that have sewn on leather accents...If I owned a hand built Pegoretti...I'd sleep with it.

So do you. Why do you need "or better" anything? The stock parts on any bike is more than anyone needs for a street use.

Just like all those people who:

Build their own house instead of just buying a trailer or prefab one.
Restore antique cars/motorcycles instead of buying a fancy new Mustang/Camero/Harley.
Spend the extra money to buy quality local products instead of crap from Wal-Mart.
Hire craftsman/woman to do a tile floor instead of some $100 linoleum.

I could go on and on. I smell a hint of jealousy.

That bike is going to be something that will be with the op for a lifetime... If you really want to troll about wasting money, you should hit up some gambling forums.

If you want to keep it classic, in my opinion I would use the three C's on your frame exclusively: Campy, Cinelli & Columbus.

However, I don't think Pegoretti uses Columbus tubing but you may want to ask to be different.

Enjoy!

I abbreviated a common phrase, not a persons name. There is a big difference.

your username is an abbreviation of the name of a sports team, is that different than abbreviating the name of a bicycle parts company?

yes, because it's not a person's name.

I don't think he was talking about Tullio Campagnolo, was he?

Even there own company reps say Campy (no punt intended).

I think an all Campy/Pergoretti bike would be more than very nice.

there's no getting through to this guy... he's disgruntled by your hard work... while he fuddles around with a mailorder IRO drinking pabst and popping pimples, giving people financial advice and acting as an art critic on bffgss... he's probably from St. Louis... all angry b/c of it...
