RELoad frame pads
 

I was thinking about picking up a REload frame pad for a couple of reasons, namely to protect my toptube from my handlebars and my hands, legs, nuts from snagging on those pesky ties I have to hold my brake cables onto my frame.

Has anybody used one before? Are they effective? Are they another pain-in-the-ass when it comes to additional great you have to worry about getting ripped off when chained up?

Are those the old BMX-style frame pads? I never really saw a use for 'em.

I kinda liked the old padded shoulder rests at the top tube/seat tube joint, though.

Pipe insulation at home depot or the like. Cheap, easy to replace. Easily confused with a pipe if you ever decide to swing it at people in cars.

Or you could wrap your frame in popped tubes. Not much protection but it's better than metal...

inner tube plus electrical tape on top. Cheap and you get much more street cred :D

i have one on my bike. i can take some pictures for you tomorrow. i like it a lot since i am always carrying my bike on my shoulder and this makes it far more comfortable. it hasn't been ripped off in berkeley yet either. the one thing i remember is the pad being a tight fit for the first week or so on my top tube. after it was worn in, things fit a lot better. while electrical tape may be more messenger cred, having as many messenger bag products and mixing them with other companies is up there too!

I've been thinking about ridin over there and pickin one up lately myself...just havent done it.

I've been thinking about getting a small piece of leather and just lacing it to my toptube since I'm always leaning it against metal street signs and whatnot - so as to prevent the paint from chipping. Just a thought... think it might be kinda classy too.

Here's my solution. No one can steal it either since I glued it on with 3M Super77!

There's also this solution (on my SS). Thanks to the boys in KC who slapped this on when they shipped my bike back from the Midwest Singletrack Summit. They call them Carpet Snakes and are made from old Oriental and Antique rugs.

I really really want one of the Big Cheese spiked frame pads...but apparently, they're discontinued :(
