2 bikes for me currently:

a fixed gear track bike i commute on, and a crusty, backup SS conversion

For months and months I only had a beat-up hi-ten fixed-gear conversion with steel wheels, rode it up and down hills, in the rain and snow, and never complained. These days... well, let's say it's a lot harder to get rid of bikes than it is to get rid of them. Not gonna wag my e-penis regarding the number or type, but soon I will not have room for a bed in my bedroom.

My first love is mountain biking, and that's where most of my effort/funds go. My fixed and road bikes, as well as the beater commuter are all foreplay for miles of ponderosa lined singletrack.

my fixed gear is currently my only bike. as its been said, philly is pretty flat. im hoping santa is going to bring me a geared cross bike, though.

I only have a fixed gear, not planning on geoing freewheel anytime soon.

I'd keep my geared cross bike if I could have only one. But not before upgrading EVERYTHING.

I have a fixed gear and a road bike. I switch it up every week.
I take road more serious

Going fixed is a no-brainer for me when:

There are few serious hills in the area (you define serious)
I'm not carrying huge loads
I'm not riding super-gnarly off-road terrain where ground clearance is an issue

Of course there are finer points to this, and many hardcore riders disregard all that stuff entirely, but those three conditions pretty much delineate my comfort zone for riding fixed every day. When I was living in New York, my only bike was fixed.

Now that I'm in Pittsburgh, which is hilly, and have to carry loads occasionally, and like to take advantage of some of the dirt around here, I've switched out to a xootr swift folder set up cyclocross-style. Much more versatile.

from the looks of the poll it seems pretty evenly split. i was just curious as to what kind of crowd goes on this section of the forum. im going to keep my fixed gear since its more fun for shorter rides than my touring bike. I guess i just felt a little guilty having more than one bike and spending so much money on it lately. but its good to know that there are lots of people crazier about biking than i am :p
