World Sport Fixed Gear Conversion
this was my first conversion, and its my first fixed gear bike, with the help of a few I got through it pretty smoothly and learned alot. My next move is to get a kilo tt frameset from Bikeisland in April, and switch the parts over to it.
The story: I really wanted to do a conversion, because all I have owned has been my wellington road bike. So I searched and searched and searched until I finally found a schwinn world sport in pretty good condition at a flea market for only $30. Pictures tell the story: Pictures are in chronological order: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2284/...69b7cd5d6a.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3184/...c8bddc1c3c.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3214/...dca2ecb86a.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3072/...d6f21b4465.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3001/...87d37679fd.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3111/...5327ee.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3123/...g?v=1229817889 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3232/...3e321a45f1.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3219/...g?v=1229817933 After my first fixed gear ride 20 minutes ago. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3231/...66a25905cf.jpg I got all the parts wisely so that I could switch them over to a kilo tt frameset. all I need for that is a new stem. What I bought: This spanned over a two month period, I was anxious every single one of them days to finish but I was also patient. Here is a list of what I bought for it. DP18 Wheelset with formula hubs tektro front brake fizzik bar tape continental ultra sport front tire and gatorskin rear tire nitto RB021 bullhorns kalloy seatpost (25.4) honey brooks B17 MKS sylvan pedals, MKS steel clips XL, Soma leather double straps KMC gold chain Eighth/Inch crankset 46t bens cycle cog 16t bens cycle lockring shimano BB Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy, happy holidays! |
Beautiful job! One of the nicest conversions I've seen. Especially like the masking for the three stripes on the top tube. Why'd you get rid of the matching crankset?

Hmmmm.... maybe I should convert my World Sport to a fixie! I've never ridden a fixie but it's on my bucket list.

If and when you get a Kilo I hope you throw on the same or another homebrewed color scheme, cause this bike of yours looks fantastic!

I just purchased a free wheel to convert into a fixed gear. Once I got it home and looked at it. I decided to tear it down and rebuild, We have the techology :thumb: |
Thanks guys!

Will the parts even fit on the Kilo frame? I know the seat post won't. That is a beautiful bike btw. Here is what I suggest. Keep that bike the way it is. Maybe salvage the brooks and handlebars for your new bike and find some cheaper alternatives for the schwinn. Now either keep it or sell it. My friend sold his world sport conversion with crappy paint, crappy wheels, crappy seat and bars for $300. I'm sure you can get a lot more. I have an 89 world sport with a kilo TT on the way and I'm planning on turning it into a cruiser of sorts.
