want to change bars. Ideas?

What do you think? Drop bars seem a little balky to me. Looking for something a bit smaller? Ideas?

This is what I was thinking. I am leaning bullhorns for a little more positioning. Wonder if I can keep the stem? Not sure what the size is. Do most bike shops carry bullhorns? Would be nice to buy local. Never looked for them.

Thanks for the replies so far.

chop em!

They look pretty nice. Wonder if they will fit. Gotta measure the ones I have. Thanks

Hmmm, I have thought about it but, they are 3ttt pista bars. I don't know if I should? I see them on ebay for $50 plus shipping ffs.

don't.

thisiscolin 12-25-08 10:49 PM

why not?

gotmyusernamechanged 12-25-08 11:04 PM

they're track drops. the deepness probably wouldn't feel as comfortable as chopping some old road drops. plus, they're pretty.

but then again, different strokes.

thisiscolin 12-25-08 11:07 PM

yeah i'm real cheap, i'd work with what i got, but you are right they are quite pretty, and fairly rare

wearyourtruth 12-25-08 11:08 PM

don't chop them. they are really nice bars. if you want to chop some bars then get a used road set. if you are "real cheap" sell those for $50, buy a $5 road set, chop those, and pocket $45. that's better than "using what you got" plus chop n flopped track bars don't work well because they don't have the correct bend to them to provide an "elbow" for your hands, much less the "horns" part will never quite be parallel.

as for syntace stratos, they are great bars, but there is no way they are going to fit in that stem. as a matter of fact, i doubt any bullhorns will fit in that stem, but especially not the stratos. i've also never seen the stratos in anything but black, which i think will look gross with all the rest of those components.

i don't have a suggestion for what to put on the bike, but i'm sure others will come up with better ideas.

Do you go to Temple, OP?

Geordi Laforge 12-25-08 11:59 PM

guerciottis are quite nice and deserve classy bars. find some comfortable crits that fit your shoulder width. and use tape this time.

sp00ki 12-26-08 12:25 AM

this thread cannot be serious.

"hammers seem kinda bulky to me. can you recommend a tool that looks better?"

or

"i'm looking for a way to show off my bike on this messageboard. does this work?"

Most bike shops do not carry them. All bike shops can order them, at no shipping cost to you. Plus, you are buying local, which is something you expressed interest in. In addition, you can pick out exactly which bars you want and have a warranty and someone to go to if something goes wrong.

What do you mean by bulky? Is this a comfort or aesthetics issue?

glad you said it, I'm leaning more towards the second option cause someone with a bike like that surely knows about other type of handlebars.

No. I'm on the other side of the state.

I already have crits unless you have a different idea.

Spoken just like someone from Philly. I would expect nothing less. Merry Christmas to you too. You are actually being kind for someone from your area.
