Are all lockrings 24 tpi?

I have alex solo rims. I just purchased a surly cog and a shimano lock ring for me fixie. The cog spun on fine and I tightened it. I trying putting on the lockring (threading CCW) and it goes in a couple of lines and then just stops. It appears stuck and I don't wanna force it because the rims are aluminum and I'm gonna strip the threads. Anysuggestions??

mavic ellipse hubs take special (french?) threaded lockrings...I managed to tighten a soma (english) lockring on one side of my ellipse wheel - it was hard. I have since removed it and use the other "good" side for now; not sure if I can use the other side now or not.
