Chrome Jury Frame anyone??
 

does anyone own or have pics of a built chrome jury frame?? and does anyone have anything good or bad to say about the jury frames in general?? Im thinking of building a townie after seeing the post pics of your townie thread :P

I've heard it's a little tricky to find brakes that reach the rim, due to the geometry and clearances.

Brakes aren't that hard to find- you just need to be sure and get long reach calipers.

I have one. It's nice. You need to get the Tektro R556 calipers and drill out the back of the fork so that it can take a recessed nut. I'm going to get a Wald 535 rack/panniers setup. Maybe fenders someday. Smooth ride, not so responsive.

isn't mine, but its a chrome. i have a black 56cm with 28cs and fenders. i like it alot. i also have shorter arms, which requires a shorter stem, so my steering is probably a bit more responsive than others. these frames have a lot of potential.

That built up Chrome job at the gallery is tasteful. Been thinking about pulling the trigger on a Chrome Jury from Bikeisland.

the only other thing, mine came with a couple of problems. one was that the threads in the bottom bracket shell were f'ed up and it cost me 50 bucks to get it re-faced. good news was that as soon as i told mike from bike island about it he immediately sent me reimbursement through paypal. Only other issue was that the stem was cut a bit shorter than i expected. i fixed that by getting a stem with i higher rise.

Wow, he's running a 20mm tire on the Jury. The frame can take 45s or something like that.

Edit: Also that Deda chrome tape is really blingy. I considered it but ended up going with the silver Fizik tape.

I just got my Jury delivered today. It's being built up as a commuter/beater; fat tires, fenders, etc.

I already have a set of 556's sitting around from another project, so the brake won't be an issue. I also tried an older Shimano single pivot caliper and it also reached in the front. There's plenty of old centerpull and side-pulls that will fit as well. I think the 556 is the only road dual pivot caliper currently being produced that will fit. There are several bmx calipers on the market that would fit. Brake reach is not a huge issue. I will have to drill out the back of the fork to take a recessed nut. A minor annoyance.

The bb threads look okay, but I literally just took it out of the box and haven't messed with it much besides the brake issue on the fork.

There is a fair amount of paint on the inside of the seat tube and head tube. I won't be able to tell if this will make a big different when installing the headset cups or seatpost until the installation. I will probably just hit the inside of the tubes with a little bit of sand paper before I install anything. Another minor annoyance.

One of the track ends is bent/twisted by a tiny bit. It looks like it will probably affect rear wheel installation. The paint is also chipped on both dropouts where the seat stays are welded to the dropouts. Looking at the inside of the box reveals a lot of damage to the inside of the box where the dropouts were. Either someone at the factory was having a bad day and slammed the frame into the box, or UPS dropped it a few too many times. I can work these dropouts into shape myself. Another minor annoyance.

That being said, the orange paint is beautiful. Almost a pearl orange. Very sharp.

So far it's a good frame for the 215 (plus tax, I'm in TX) shipped. You can't get a 215 dollar frame/fork/headset and expect a gem. It's decent. It'll definitely make a great lock-n-leave commuter/errand bike, which is why I bought it. I may even race fixed 'cross on it this fall (it would be replacing my 1979 Motobecane Mirage for fixed 'cross). It certainly has the tire clearance.

I'll post a build thread when I finally get this thing put together. Wheels arrive Friday, from Chucksbike's 30% off sale and the rest of the parts will come when finances allow.

Hey, if you felt like returning the frame, I'm sure bikeisland would do a quick exchange for you. It sounds like yours came in pretty rugged shape.

awesome, sounds like the jury frame is just what im looking for. I dont want a super twitchy, aggressive track geo. Also, i thought i would have to put 23c tires on it but if it has the clearance i would prefer to put some 32c tires on them. anyone have any good suggestions on a wheel set to go with the frame? im thinking just all black rims or just plain silver rims, just going for the simple and classy look. Also on a budget, haha.

Tektro 556 will not fit in the rear, it doesn't even reach the rim. Front reach is fine. I have 35c and there is still loads of room left for fenders and larger tires. I have no idea why you would go bigger than 38c for a frame like this. The amount of reach in the rear is a total f*ck up in the design. It blows me away that they're still making it this way and thinking it's ok. Both front and back should have the equal amount of reach and work with readily available brakes. I think the only brake that will work in the rear is random BMX brakes.

Be sure to account for the extra height/stand over clearance with bigger tires. My 56cm with 35c is over 32.5". It's over an inch taller than my 56cm track frame with 23c., way more if you go 38c + tires.

Meh. Of the three minor annoyances I listed, one is design-related (no recessed hole in the back of the fork), one is typical of cheap imports (paint on inside of the head/seat tubes), and one may or may not be related to shipping and/or packing (dropout bend and paint chips). I don't feel like fighting the UPS battle when I can align the dropout myself in a few minutes. This frame is going to get abused as a lock-n-leave.



And td.tony, chucksbikes.com is going out of business and you can get a Mavic CXP22 to Formula wheelset in silver for 165 plus 30% off. After shipping, mine came to $143. That's a great deal on a wheelset probably nobody in here could say is a inadequate.
