redline 925 review 08 / 09 + sizing information

I finally decided on getting the redline 925 after looking at a few single speed commuter bikes. So far I put about 150 miles on it and I couldn't be happier with my choice.

First off, the sizing can be somewhat confusing. With the compact geometry, a good rule a thumb would be to subtract 4 cm off of your road bike size. A good size for me usually is 56cm, so the perfect frame for me would be the 52cm. Of course this is just an estimate but it worked great for me.

After taking off a few components, this bike is surprisingly light for a steel framed bike. I could easily hold it out in front of me with one hand. I was unsure about the relaxed geometry and how it would look, but overall I think it is very good looking! Maybe it just doesn't take pictures too well? The redline logos are not as bad as well, even then I wish they used decals instead.

The gearing feels perfect for a wide range of uses. If it gets to the point where you can't pedal up a hill; believe me, you're not going to be able to do it with gears either. I really enjoy the bullhorns, flatbars get old quick if you have to go a long distance.

The seat is not that comfortable. While it is not as painful as the cruiser type of seats, I suggest that it should be replaced.

Even though I don't have much experience with bikes, I feel like this will please everyone. I am surprised why there is not a bigger market for single speed commuters like these!

Did you put on moustache bars or did you just make a slip and meant to say bullhorns?

whoops yeah that should be bullhorns

I test rode a 925 today and I liked it! I really don’t need any more bikes but this one may come home with me soon.

Ciao,

I used to have one of the original 9-2-5s in the gray-green fade with the moustache bars. That was a really sweet bike. Too bad it was just a hair too big for me.

I like the new paint job. I'm iffy on the use of Bullhorn bars.

i like bullhorns for a commuter bike, I'm just not into the way they look.
