Value/quality of Miyata frame
 

My girlfriend is looking to upgrade her frame, and she found a 49cm Miyata track frame on Craigslist for $325 including Thompson seat post, saddle, headset, stem. I haven't been able to find much information, but it seems like a good deal, especially considering that its hard to find frames in that size. Here are some pictures.... does anyone have info on Miyata frames? Also, does anyone know if the rear spacing would be 110 or 120?

If I needed a bike that size, I'd be buying it right now.

Assuming it isn't thrashed, buy the hell out of that frame.

I would say its a pretty good deal. Miyata frames don't have some of the really insane lug work you will find on some Japanese frames like Samson, M-Idea, Nagasawa, but those frames are always priced somewhere near $1OOO. For $325 you are going to get a handmade, luggged frame, with some extra bits including a nice Thompson seat post. I'd say, if it fits her, she should go for it. Ask to see more pics if she can't really decide. Besides, worth is really in the eye of the beholder.

Rear spacing? I'd guess 12O. Even though Miyata frames are Japanese, I don't think I've seen an NJS one [who are the only ones really using 11O]. It depends on how old it is I suppose. Ask him to take a measurement for ya!

Do it. If that were closer to me, I'd buy it, sell my Kilo for more (because I bet I could get more) and ride away happy. That's kind of a steal.

Miyatas are awesome bikes, real nice quality even on the lower end models. I've been looking for a Miyata track frame in my size ever since I built my Miyata conversion. My friend has that exact same frame and he's crashed it a bunch of times, done tons of tricks on it and otherwise heaped abuse on it and its still kicking.

Go for it.

Smaller frames look really cool since the wheels look larger in comparison. My 2¢ worth.

Buy it....

I have been riding a 1980's miyata conversion for 7 or 8 months now and other than being stupid heavy it's nice. Real strong. Other than breaking the fork after too many failed wheelie attempts I have had no issues with it. The frame itself is good to go.

You do realize that this is essentially useless advice, right?
