Worse than the foul letter "F" word?

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

What is worse than the four letter "F" word?

The five letter "F" word.

Ffff.. Fffff...."Fixie".

There I said it. Every time I read it, I cringe.

That word never used to bother me, but now it bugs me to no end. The mind is strange for sure...

It is funny that it finally caught on out here.

"Is that a fixie?"
"Yeah it has a fixed wheel"
"COOL!"

It doesn't bother me. I really don't think it is a new word if that is the problem people have with it. I met this guy once on MARTA (our subway) who inquired about my bike, asking me what people called it this days. I was being technical for some reason and I said "fixed gear" or "fixed wheel" and he said when he was young (He looked about 50.) they called them "fixies".

Anyhow, back to the point, I don't see the problem either. I don't really use the word myself, usually I just call em bikes indiscriminately.

I hope you're not taking me too seriously. I was hoping the inappropriate latin phrase and cheat code for DOOM would give me away.
