Proofhide on leather straps

Thoughts? Yes or no?

why not? its to treat leather saddles to make the leather waterproof and cure properly while being put to stress. I do it to mine and even the cheap christophe straps last longer than most people say they do.

yes, that or some other preserver. For the record whatever you put on the straps, you want it to preserve the leather, not soften it.

That was my concern. That proofhide would preserve, but at the same time soften the leather and weaken it. Running Ale straps now, they seem pretty dicey to begin with.
