gear ratios for tricks

what do you think is the best gear ratio for tricks?

geeknerd99 01-28-09 05:11 PM

53/11. No foot retention, obviously, since it's dedicated for tricking. And no brakes of course, for mad barspinning.

Ditto

I would do 24/24, or maybe 26/26. Flipped up bum bars and a springer Brooks on a slammed seatpost.

whats a gear ratio thats practical for both tricks and riding flatland?

stryper 01-28-09 05:24 PM

something around 70 gear inches. It really just depends on how strong you are and all that other jazz that goes into your gear ratio. I normally ride 82 gear inches and can maneuver my way around most tricks. But when I gear down 5 inches it makes it a whole lot easier. So maybe take what you ride now and just gear it down a little for tricks. It's all rider dependent.

^word. you want something in 70's. 46 x 18 is alright for me. im usually on 48 x 17 for when i just ride around.

geeknerd99 01-28-09 05:32 PM

In all seriousness though, it seems the better the setup is for tricking, the worse it is for everyday use, and vice versa.

Best is 5.1, which is also great for everyday riding.

larsalan 01-28-09 06:19 PM

49 ring
myb a 19 or 20 tooth = high 60s low 70s

surly has a double cog
I think a 21/19 ond some others near that size

I use less than 70" gear inches for cheap thrills and bloody spills.

admrwe 01-28-09 07:01 PM

i personally ride 45x17 and find it pretty good for all around riding / tricks. i have been considering switching to 43x17.

if you have a 49 in the front i would go 19 in the back.

people on here are lame.
