Non-Matching Cranks-Janky?
I've recently acquired 2 new conversions from Craigslist (Raleigh & Schwinn)-
I didn't realize until after purchasing that on both the cranks don't match-
On the Raleigh, the cranks appear similar yet one is stamped 175 and one is
170-
On the Schwinn, both are stamped 170, but are different brands or models-
I haven't ridden either much so i haven't been able to tell-
Should I feel a difference in the 2 sizes or 2 brands?
More important-Do you think 2 different cranks is ghetto as heck?

pretty ghetto.
2 brands you might notice a difference but it's unlikely (different Q factor). Between two lengths you'll almost certainly feel a difference though.

I've had luck searching the e-bay for halves of cranks. I mean generally you can tell what manufacturer it is by doing some research. Maybe there's a sign on the crank etc... As long as you can't tell with the naked eye who cares (except the half a legga crank for people with half a legga) . The Raleigh crank may be harder to replace due to bottom bracket issues, but if it has a square tapper on it you can get a replacement crank (the bb is the issue not the crank). As for the Schwinn burn it No, just find a crank that'll fit it, you'll need to post more info on that! Ok, I guess I am under the assumption that you want to spend more money on these bikes, that's how I roll. New cranks are always nice, now you have a reason to buy one!

The deal is- they're all nice cranks-
The Raleigh's seem to match, cosmetically, both say Shimano, just one is
170 & one is 175-
The Schwinn has one 170 arm with "Super Maxy" embossed on the outer arm- The other 170 arm is smooth on the outer, with "SR japan " stamped on the inner-other than that they don't look all that mismatched-
I guess i won't worry about how it looks, since it took me a week of starring at
my bikes to notice it myself-
I'm wondering if anyone has had 2 different cranks on and felt a difference-
Thanks for the quick replies!

You will feel a different and probably give yourself some knee trouble with cranks of two different lengths - you're not going to have the seat at the right height for one of your legs.
As long as the Q factor is close for the ones that are the same length, it's just looks as long so that's up to you. You can probably fine a replacement 170mm arm for cheap on ebay if you want to conserve.

I have a super maxy crank for my schwinn and the other arm is not the same but unless you really look you cant tell the diff. I got it for free and didnt even notice until i got it home a lil while later. Im just gonna say **** it and ride it since it is just a cheep conversion. All I need now is a deal on a set of wheels, the only money I am putting into it.

I used to have a 175mm crank arm on the left side and a 160mm on the right side. In addition, the right side crank arm was bent so my foot would pivot left and right as it went around.
It was really annoying for like 2 days, then I got used to it and couldn't notice a difference. Riding normal bikes felt weird though.
So anyways, I'd say don't worry about it - you'll adjust.

I got hit by a car last year and broke the non-ds crank arm. The night before I actually dumpstered a crankset that used the same ****ty isis drive BB but it was a MTB crankset. So for a year I rocked a 165 on the DS and 170 on non-DS with a larger q-factor on non-DS as well. I got used to it pretty quickly but now that I've replaced the crankset I'm still finding myself having to get used to the difference. Basically, it's okay for a bit but dont let yourself acclimate to that, it will **** you up for a while.

Schweet! Thanks for looking out! Here's the left-side 175 (Shimano)I'd like to replace-Its on an early '70's Raleigh Sports -
Here's the right-side 170 I'd like to keep (Sugino)-
I'd be happy if you'd have a match for either, let me know, I sure appreciate it!
