Trailer on a fixed?

Would it be advisable or should I use a freewheel? I am wanting to find one of those that little kids ride in so I can go trash picking.

I ride my Uno with a trailer and my 3 year old and 14 month old hangin out like little studs.

Of course, I have brakes, which probably makes the deal.

If you are running brakes it shouldn't matter.

There is an entire thread called something like "how much stuff do you carry". You will see a bunch of trailers with fixed cogs. It goes on for dozens of pages.

+1 for brakes.

hauling a load without brakes would not be advisable, fixed gear is fine.

This was right after I built this bike. I have since lowered my gear ratio and taken the brake off. And wrapped my bars. Towing brakeless is fine as long as you don't do anything dumb.

I'm just curious why you took the brake off if you intend on running a trailer. Just because you're capable of doing something doesn't mean that there isn't a much easier way of doing it.

I only use the trailer spoadically. Brakeless is fun, and it looks cool. The only reason I had a brake originally was because I was running 52x16, I now run 46x18.

Hell, he's right. Brakeless looks FUN!

Bonus, my kids screaming in the back as we're bailing down a hill as I'm trying to whip skid . . . only I can't fling the rear or even break traction because I have a 20 lb. trailer+60 odd lbs. of prodigy flayin' about having a blast as we barrel faster and faster down into the intersection.

Fun times, I'm going to leave work this moment exactly to go start removing my brakes...

If the theory is too much because of my unnecessary, rude and anti-internalist (I'll mediate on it later) attitude I'll try another approach:

Have you ever seen a car, towing another car, with a rope? Have you seen said 'puller' stop, and the guy in the second car not brake?

Try that on a bike, with a load. The trailer will shift, because physics has more street cred than tarckstars.

Second, Your trailer sounds like the axle is too far back, or you need to spread out your load more. A good rule of thumb is your trailer should have a 10% tongue weight. I know the physics, I've managed to jack knife the trailer messing around in my alley. (Being dumb) But I'm always cautious when I'm on a public road with cars.
