Help Build a VELODROME

The local school board where I live is trying to figure out what to do with under enrolled schools. I said make them attractive build a velodrome, share the cost with the county and provide space for the only coop, all in one swoop. Please help write to: schoolbd@arlington.k12.va.us subject should be "velodrome for public schools " thanks

It may be helpful to draw from other examples to show that projects like this can be successful and can be implemented and maintained by communities.

How exactly will building a velodrome increase public school enrollment? Enrollment is a function of population and demographics. Would building a velodrome in Arlington encourage parents of school-aged children to buy property there and enroll their children in public schools? Have other new velodrome projects correlated with higher public school enrollment?

I dunno how things are around here, but it's usually not cool to post the same thing twice in multiple subforums (same thread in the Road forum)

I agree.

Are velodromes the new skatepark?

Track racing is a pretty expensive sport for the athletes. More expensive than swimming, baseball, basketball, track & field, football, and even tennis.

To the OP: Are you sure that you aren't proposing using school board money to build a track for YOU? How would you feel if they built the track and only allowed Arlington students to use it like they do gyms, football fields, and baseball diamonds?

Richmond has a track racing series... has for years. Maybe a velodrome soon if we get more riders out at the speedway races.

the current rules allow anyone to use the facilities , preferace given to county residents, it would be open to pretty much every one .

This seems to have little or no connection to raising enrollment...

Awesome! I have never raced on a track though, I would need some serious lessons...
