Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I'll have to find a pic of the bike in its aftermath. The wheel got wedged between the fork/brakes and the crank/downtube. The entire downtube on one side is completely black where the tire was forced passed it. He had to get some ungodly number of stitches to his face. The frame is now being used as a bike lift in my shop.

It has, but as long as there are noobs around with minimal technical skills, building their own bikes and learning to ride off the interwebz, there will be mishaps for our amusement.

Some ****** bag for sure... Requires immediate death-sentence.

Hence why the manufacturers always state to check you bike before riding, literally each and every single time you ride!

Surprisingly, I did. It happened mid summer this year. Spent about a month in a cast and a couple of weeks in a brace.

Some good came out of it too. I wrecked on a geared bike, and while I was healing (since I couldn't ride), I decided to hit up CL for something for my girlfriend and something to turn into a fixed gear. I have limited funds, so the projects are coming slowly. But they're still coming.

I'm amazed by how many of there are single person accidents. It seems we really are our own worst enemy.

oh man! That sucks! Seriously, drivers should pass a certain number IQ test to get their licenses..
Hopefully winter clothes made ur body skid not as terrible as it would be had it been summer.

It's a crime for this thread to go a month without a bump. So, before that happens, here's a bump.

As a reflex, I put out my right hand to break my fall. It's been a month and the bottom part of my palm still hurts whenever I apply too much pressure to it.

I've been putting it off, but I may need to see a doctor for it.
