tires for skidding
Hey guys. Ive worn out my first pair of tires since I started riding my first fg build, wondering what you find are the longest lasting 23 or 25 size tires when it comes to riding with skidding. I searched the forums and was suprised not to find any threads on the topic (mabey I used the wrong verbiage). Let me know what you think, thanks, Lou

LoL
Soma everwears. You must do a lot of skidding. |
ill add in a +1 for the soma everwears
|
How do they handle normal use, ie how do they grip the road compared to say an armadillo, or gator skin?
|
Soma Everwears
Continental Gatorskin Vittoria Rubino Pro |
latest issue of Cog Mag had a nice article on decent tires.
Continental Touring Plus came out on top I believe. lots of people seem to stand behind the Vittoria as well. |
The search function here has always been a little off, and it seems to me it's gotten even worse lately. But type this in Google and you'll hit pay dirt:

Which Vittoria tires do people like? The pro, or the pro tech of which model is preferred?
|
i rock gatorskins up front, since they have excellent flat protection, and are still fairly quick tires (23's). ride 28s in the back currently, so takes a while to wear them down, and skid less. i typically run cheap ass 23's in the back and just replace them more often

Vittoria Radonneur.. and be sure to

28's though? Isn't that pretty huge and slow?
|
lets be realistic..
25c has a rolling resistance that's pretty comparable to a 23c of the same make. 28c has only bit more than 25c. The extra rubber is definitely worth it in the rear if you ride in less than perfect roads. Plus it looks sexy when the clearance is tight! |
would it be awkward to run a 23 in the front and a 25 in the back. im hoping the 25's will have a little more longevity then 23's that i usually run.
|
I have a 23 evo corsa in the front and a 28 rubino pro tech in the back.
I can't tell a difference between the 28 and the ****ty 23 I had on there before. The rubino is holding up reaaalll nice though, as far as I can tell. |
Just ride 23 gatorskins and man up!

They last longer than 3 weeks... I ride brakeless and they're standing up fine for me (especially compared to my last tire that lasted all of 3 weeks)
|
somebody who skids a lot will run through a gatorskin in no time. took my room mate 2 weeks when he got his. It was almost all skidding for fun though, almost never necessity. The soma everwear is where it is at for the skid tire. And if you don't mind the extra rolling resistance, they make a 26 that will probably last even longer than the 23.
If you want to get them cheapest buy here. And spend at least $75 and shiping is only $5. I.E. buy 3 tires at a time cause then you get the cheap shipping and a 5% quantity dicount. http://www.biketiresdirect.com/pomwe...m_tires/pp.htm Or if you must have color on a 26 then buy here: http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=17315 |
good stuff will try out the everwears. i dont skid that much, but I killed the cheap tires that came on my (cheap) wheelset in a month. its all the practicing i guess since im new at this. The 26s seem like a good compromise (was running 23s and I dont need tires that narrow), used to fat tires anyway, my only other bike is my touring bike. thanks
|
the point of skidding is to wear out your tires...that's it
no want to wear tires..no skid |

How many skid patches? That's super quick.
He abused his tires but at the same time found that soma everwear lasts twice as long as a gator skin. And it only took 6 weeks to so so lol |
