Yeah, I ended up looking up the new colorway out of curios and my first reaction was to cringe

These comments and the name of the color made me curious too. What a dead looking color. How do you Eff up yellow?

I'm thinking it was a joke gone wrong.

Somebody must've dropped a line that inspired the new colorway after referencing how the previous color looks like water and how it has "worked its way down the previous model year".

They didn't mean it but product thought they did and the people that sign off on such decisions had enough faith in their product team that even though they had a bad gut feeling about it, they still signed the go ahead.

How Surly manages to get away with some of the colors they do is beyond me. At the same time their "Spray Tan" and "Moonlit Swamp" were killer.

I think im the only one who likes it

Broctoon 02-26-17 09:24 PM

I'm undecided. I don't hate it. I think it would look good if built up with the right components, just not sure what those would be.

This is coming from a guy who stumbled into a Steamroller in the color some folks have described as "bloody stool." I love that bike, but don't really care for its color.

That's an accurate description. The plus side to some of their 'ugly' colors is that not once have I worried about scratching it.

It doesn't mater how fancy the diapers are, baby poop is still baby poop.

I feel like Surly just chooses paint for their frames based on which color they can think of a funny/edgy name for.

scoho 02-27-17 05:21 PM

I've only seen it in pics, not IRL, but I'm digging the color. I'd love to build it up with silver components (plus maybe black rims) as a townie.

Scrodzilla 02-27-17 06:39 PM

I like it too. It looks good in person and I'm not quite sure what most people who see it are complaining about.

That's what I was thinking - silver components would work much better than the black ones Surly has on their site.

the colour should be the last consideration when choosing a bike

If you think it should be the last consideration, then you agree that it should in fact be a consideration. And we're all considering it. So ... :foo:

This is like saying looks are the last consideration when choosing someone to date.

While other factors are certainly important, visual attraction is usually the first thing that sparks interest. We're only human.

Wspsux 02-28-17 09:36 AM

I only buy bikes that are green.

My thought was, if they brazed on cable stops they should've post-mounted those Paul Racers while they're at it.

Hitting the trails. Going to throw on some 32's as soon as I'm done being skid happy. This is my first fixed gear build and it's safe to say that I am completely addicted to riding now.

I just put 32mm Panaracer Gravelking slicks on mine and they're pretty great so far.

Carcosa 05-31-17 11:37 AM

Skid some gravel on 32s. Guarantee that's more fun than pavement.
