cheapest 700c wheelset??
ok so i am starting a conversion, and i really am not sure i am even going to enjoy riding fixed. i am on a search for the cheapest new 700c wheelset that will come with the correct "fixed" hub.
anyone? |
bens has cheap wheelsets for under 100.
or you can find diff parts.... i got a mavic rim laced on a formula flip flop hub for 35 and a front wheel for about the same price on craigslist. granted they are used, but theyre still in great condition. |
yeah go to benscycle.com. I just purchased a pair of black alex dh-22 with formula hub for 100 bucks with shipping. Those are the cheapest I could find and I looked EVERYWHERE. They're not bad looking, either. Just a basic black rim with black spokes/hubs. There are some Weinmann Deep V on Ebay for like 160 with free shipping if you want somethin nicer. But for 160, I got wheels, tires, tubes, chainring bolts, and celeste grip tape shipped to me from bens cycle :)

the alex r450/joytech low flange are great wheelsets for the money, just get a high quality cog/cockring on them.
and if you're not sure about riding fixed, you can put a singlespeed freewheel on the fixed hub and ride ss. but i'd go to an lbs and test drive a fixed gear with brakes before dropping money into a cheap wheelset that you can't return. |

glad my joke wasn't overlooked.

I've got a Alexr450 and Joytech rear hub on my winter bike. I rode that all winter though slush, snow, salt, ice, wet roads and whatever else and the setup worked fine for me. The ACS freewheel completely rusted out but the hubs are still going strong with zero maintenance. For a cheap setup, this worked really well for me.
