Check sheldon brown or the park tools website and if it isn't clicking, take it to your lbs. Brakes are important and you don't want to be working on them as a completely clueless newb. You'll get if figured out soon enough but in the meantime you want your bike to be safe.
That said, it's not that hard---figure out where the housing goes on both ends, cut the housing to the correct length with a dremel, clean up the cut, feed the cable through the housing from the lever end (figure out where in the lever the little round thing on the end of the cable is supposed to sit), then clamp the cable down at the calipers with the little nut there. |

Start here, but honestly you'll probably end up learning some hard lessons through trial and error with cabling. Just remember, you can shorten them, but you can't make them long again. If you have a bike savvy pal, buy a six pack and sucker them into helping you. Doesn't hurt to have some extra cables and housing on hand. |
Tarver's right, I think, getting a friend to show you how is probably the best way. It's easy but there are a number of important details that you will tend to mess up if you don't know what you're doing.

park tools directions are gold.

If you need something more visual...
Watch this video on installing brake cables. He is changing the brake cable for a V-brake, disregard that. Then watch this, where he adjusts the brake cable on a caliper brake like the one you're working with. |
