Fixed Gear Cog Ratios.
Im a running 49t(if i counted right) Crank, and a 16 Tooth cog. I was wondering what the best gear ratio is for going really fast witout your feet moving extremely fast. I like bombing hills, but sometimes i go so fast i cant stop my feet. Is the lower or more better for going realllllyyy fast, or higher?
Thanks. |
A higher gear ratio will be easier on your legs. You want to be able to ease the force applied in your legs or the load from your legs applied to the pedals so make your rear cog larger or increase your crank length. This will increase your acceleration but hurt your top end speed.

big in front, small in back, for your purposes. 49 x 16 is a pretty stout gear for most, but hell, run a 53 x 11 if you only ever go down.
i don't call mine a fixed gear, rather a wrong gear...it's never right. gear for the downs and you walk up. gear for the ups and you've got your problem. gear in between and, well, you get the idea. that's why they make bikes with gears. check out http://software.bareknucklebrigade.c...it.applet.html |
