Nishiki conversion in progress kinda lol

so its been forever but im finally coming aropund to getting my bike to where i want it to be.

It went from http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...tripped002.jpg

to now ghetto single speed style lolhttp://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...-09pics005.jpg
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...-09pics006.jpg

upgrades so far
sugino cranks/nitto stem/ideal saddle/mks pedals/cages/leather straps/kenda tires....the wheels are temporary until i get a fixed set by the end of this week , Im planning on buy this if its in descent shape http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/bik/1043001405.html and using the frame and wheels ,i noticed there is a smal crack on the down tube of my bike.
I also plan on dropping the straight bars and getting some descent drops

What do you guys think?

Edit: misread as you were going to buy the other bike for wheel and use broken frame.

bja86 03-12-09 04:04 PM

the white frame i currently have has a small crack, i want to buy the cannondale if its in good condition and just use the wheels and frame and possibly the seat post, Im transferring everything else over to the cannondale(if i get it)

Cannondales are nice frames. I've had both road and mtn bikes from them and they are bulletproof. Clean welds, huge tubes - very nice. Check the rear dropouts. A lot of Cannondales have vertical drops which may require you to use a half link in the chain if you need to change gearing or adjust the tension. It's not a big deal but something to keep in mind.

+1 on the drops.
Let's see that crack.

i like the bike very clean, \
i see your looking at a post near UCR, do you go there? i do!

ZiP0082 03-13-09 06:13 AM

i'd run 2 brakes if this is singlespeed.

I agree, 2 brakes is very needed with singlespeed. I rode 20 miles once on a freewheel with only a front brake. That wasn't pretty and I burned out half of my pads. I'm actually building up a coaster brake for the rear to keep the look clean.

bja86 03-13-09 05:55 PM

I live In Moreno Valley, pretty close to UCR, I'll try and get a pic soon of the crack, It's pretty small but my buddy said I should have it checked out so I dont know.

I got better pictures of the cannondale, it has braze-on gear shifters and vertical drops =(, just something id rather not deal with , I had already chopped the ones off the nishiki, awell it looks like im going to buy a set of Weinmanns from Bicyclewheels.com and call it a day , and im probably going to paint the nishiki primer black until I find a descent frame.

I was going to say, "get the drops back," but you are. good!

bja86 03-13-09 06:13 PM

haha ofcourse, those straight bars are not cutting it.

anemptygun 03-13-09 06:41 PM

That's what I'm doing with my nishiki too!

It looks like Nishiki definitely has some pretty sweet frames.

Update on my bike , and a few pictures.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...6/CIMG1733.jpg
That saddle needs some adjusting.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...6/CIMG1732.jpg

Got a weinmann dp wheel set, picking up the front wheel on saturday , stole the SR bars from my miyata

Front brake going on soon just waiting for some cash to pick up the gold finger lever at my LBS

I plan on painting the bike sometime soon i hope unless I run into a descent frame.

What do you guys think??

devinfan 03-19-09 12:17 PM

I think it looks great. Personally, I like the white. I would put some cloth or leather tape on the bars and call it done.

They do! Even the low-end ones I've seen are quite nicely built.

And they've got quite high-quality paint jobs. Nice enough to leave alone, after all it's only original once! But I'm a dork for patina, so whateves.

lmaonade 03-19-09 01:51 PM

yo brian~
i see you got some drops!
haha sweet bike dude.
