Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Looks as though at least the top race of the headset is taped.

Updated on Day 2.

The headset has been taped off with a layer of vaseline on top.

Thanks for the interest people. Day 3 update is up!

What do you guys recommend for tires? I am looking for some flat/puncture resistant tires. Ben's Cycles has Continental Gatorskin wire beads for $36.99 each.

Surly Seca Comps are my personal favorite. The sweetest thing about them is the anti puncture seal they come with. So you have like 2 additional layers before you actually skid to wire.

That's a nice build! Thanks all for the compliments.

I just won an older Leader 735TR frame without the intention of winning. So I guess I will have another project coming along after this. Or I might just sell the Univega frame set.

LOL.

Painting 101 : Always paint parts, oriented the same way as you would see them in use .

I caved in and bought myself a set of Vuelta TrackPro's wheels for this project. I will put the Velocity's on the leader instead.

I wonder how hard it is going to be to polish up machined sidewalls with tires mounted already. Looking to shine up the Vuelta TrackPro's, anyone have some tips and tricks to do so?

Looks rad with the risers and non-junky saddle but get some metal clips! And that's a big gear.

True, the decals are over the top. I feel like I'm riding a nascar bike . Going to the vinyl store and covering up the bottom tube for now.
