Not really. Most of my friends are from within the city where biking is very common. My coworkers occasionally voiced that I was nuts to be riding through the winter, but otherwise people seem to say "I wish I could..." a lot more than thinking I'm weird for riding.

yes, i had to coax my friend out of the house by saying i wouldn't ride in her car with her, and the only way i would go out with her to the bar is if she got on her bike. needless to say, a block later she was complaining.

I dont have many friends that cycle, so for them, they think its weird. But my few (two) friends that do cycle here like it. My one friend has been riding fixed for a long time and was really stoked that Im enjoying it.

My girlfriend: "You love your bike more than you love me."
Me: "Yep."

She knows that I am obsessed, and thinks it is weird...but she buys me parts as gifts for my bday and such so I cannot complain.
I have been trying to get friends into riding...not even fixed, just getting on a bike and going for a ride, but most are not into it. I don't even know anyone in Buffalo who rides a fg. I see them 24/7 though.

My family doesn't really get it but most of my friends do. It helps that I'm a transportation planner that focuses on bike and pedestrian policy. If you surround yourself with other bike nuts you will feel much more normal.

Well my neighbours' kids appreciated it today. Now that the temperature climbed to +10 C I took my bike outside to rewrap the bars and start building the wheels for my bar bike. I ended up inflating tires for at least three families, taking off training wheels, bending some crappy sidepulls back into working shape, fastening a stem binder and moving a kid's shifter to where he could actually use it and showing him what it was for.

Also got my bars wrapped, now if only I could find the ****ing straddle cable for the rear brake.

My roommates, friends, girlfriend and bosses all think it's weird that I'm obsessed.

Lots of people are lazy as **** and would definitely die if suddenly they didn't have the conveniences they're used to.

I'm friends with some of them anyway. But seriously they'd be DEAD. DEAD!!!!!

Most of my friends are totally understanding of my obsession with bikes until I tell them that I participate in an internet forum about bikes on a daily basis.

Also, I hear a lot of things like, "You're so all about bikes," and I always think, "You have no idea."

My girlfriend definitely does. My friends in general don't think it's necessarily weird, but they are a bit startled when I tell them how much I spent on my bike.

I was picking up a cog recently at campus wheel works and I saw at least 6 fixed gear bikes, then I went down to the new gallery and saw even more!
I am in syracuse now.

My friends don't bike at all, but they take it in stride. Four or Five years ago I spent all my time thinking about guitars. Now I have the best guitar and the best amp. Now I think about my bike a lot. My friends take in in stride. They know it makes me all kinds of happy, so they're kind enough to humor me. I realize they don't really care, so I don't bore them too much with it.

it's all around the world, I guess...
when I told people that I spend my money on my bikes more than the price of their motorcycles, they drop their jaws in awe.

My girlfriend once went to buy me a set of hubs; she came back almost white in the face.

"And those were the cheapest ones!"

i am constantly having discussions with my girl about how often i ride. its mostly because we have a puppy and she doesnt want to feel like shes the only one taking care of it.

i live in south florida where its hot as sh*t 80% of the year, so commuting is kinda rough, sweaty, and generally intolerable. its not like i cant ride, its just that ill be gross by the time im getting newhere, so if i ride, its for the sake of riding, and not to anywhere that i cant be dripping sweat.

that being the case, down here bikes are most oftenly used by those who have DUI's and/or cant afford a car. so, yes, my friends think im nuts. i would never tell them how much my upgrades cost, i will however brag that i got an entire bike for $350, just to try to get them interested and possibly catch the fever themselves.

i have held on to my road bike (which has been all but forgotten since i got my fixed gear) so that i can have friends over and take them for a spin. i live in a bike friendly community. no takers as of yet haha.
