How not to ever install grips
On Tuesday I put some Oury grips on my moustache bars using a tiny amount of soap in water, just like I did on my aerobars. One of them was really tight, but the other seemed to get looser. Tonight I was taking off and it completely flew off and sent me to the ground. Aside from a sore wrist I'm no worse for wear, but it's a cautionary tale nonetheless.
So, hairspray for grips, right?

I use rubbing alcohol. It evaporates completely leaving them in place like they were cemented on. Love it.

You want to go easy on the soap and water... hairspray is better, and compressed air is best.

Looking back I feel like a jackass for not just getting some hairspray or finding some rubbing alcohol, but it was just so convenient... Oh well, my admission of laziness may serve as a warning for someone in the future.

I just tried hairspray. Fingers crossed for no more embarrassment in front of strangers.

No joke, I once used Finish Line teflon dry chain lube to put grips on. The weird part is that it worked. Since then I use rubbing alcohol, definitely one of my top #10 favourite liquids.

I put mine one without using anything. Honestly, i just pushed as hard as i could because i was too impatient to go buy rubbing alchol (i know, i know). Surprisingly they've stayed put and feel cemented on.

All you need is water to put them on or take the off. The only problem is that they are very loose for a few days when u put them on.

A small drop of Triflow works for me. I find it better than other liquids because it dries in about 15 to 30 minutes. I drop a little into the grip and a little on the bar then twist the grip on.
I don't like compressed air methods because you have to needlessly make a hole in a brand new product.

Quite frankly the best advice on installing grips is after you install a set don't just jump on your bike assuming they're on there good and tight. First thing you're gonna do is grab the handlebars before you take off so why not give them a turn to see if they're set? Pretty common sense IMO.
