My bike is too big for me.

I know that comparing your inseam to the top tube isnt the best way to size yourself for a bike, but it explains my situation the easiest. My bike's top tube sits about about less than 1/2 an inch from my crotch. so im pretty much resting my junk right on top of it. Is there nothing i can do (save maybe grow a couple inches) or am I screwed on the bike? I put some money into it and I like it and would hate to start over. Thanks for any input.

Is the bike comfortable to ride?

lt smash 03-21-09 02:49 PM

yeah when i'm on it it's not a problem its just a getting on and off could be easier if it were a smaller frame.

lt smash 03-21-09 02:55 PM

the im not sure but the bike is pretty big maybe 62-64cm and im 5'11-6'0 with an inseam of 32

xsnakobx 03-21-09 02:56 PM

If it's comfy to be on, then the stand-over height isn't an issue. And stand-over height is not a good way to judge the fit of a bike at all!

JacoKierkegaard 03-21-09 02:56 PM

Honestly, if it's comfortable to ride and you're not feeling overly stretched out, I wouldn't worry about it.

put some shoes on

If it is comfortable while riding, it shouldn't be a big deal. If you feel stretched out or uncomfortable, I'd sell it and buy a better fitting bike.

my bike id big for me. my balls are right on the TT when i stsnd over it. but it is comphy to ride, so i love it.

lt smash 03-21-09 03:52 PM

Thanks a lot guys, i may keep the bike just to have a project frame (because i do need a geared bike). but I think im gonna move the part onto a smaller frame since i do feel a bit stretched out on my down stroke.

Scalawag 03-21-09 04:03 PM

that's really not a bad fit... mine is like that, maybe a half inch to an inch below my balls but I don't spend all my time standing over my bike so who cares. and even if I did it's not like crushing my balls so I don't care then either.

JacoKierkegaard 03-21-09 04:09 PM

Yeah, I'm still confused about your fit. By "stretched out," I believe most of us are talking about top tube length, as in you have to stretch yourself out too much to reach the bars comfortably. TT length is probably the most important thing with regards to fit, if you're comfortable with that then everything else should be pretty easy to dial in on your current frame.

If your leg is stretched out too much on your downstroke, then lower your seat. If your seat's all the way down already, then yeah your frame is probably way too big, but since you said you still have a half inch or so between your nuts and TT I really don't think it's that big on you in terms of height.

synapsemusic 03-21-09 04:09 PM

i read something about a 5-10 degree bend in the legs at proper saddle height

your frame sounds too big, as i'm 6'4" my 60cm kilo fits perfectly. but i have a 36" inseam so too big isn't really a concern. I'd say get a smaller frame until you get accustomed to riding fixed. nothing worse that getting into a panic situation when you're riding an aircraft carrier

lt smash 03-21-09 05:22 PM

ok then if streched means having trouble reaching the bars, then i really have no problem. From mostly what you've all told me my bike is fine i just have to tweak the seat tube a bit. but aside from my nuts resting on my tt its a pretty good ride. thanks guys for all your help and input.

JacoKierkegaard 03-21-09 05:27 PM

Yeah, it really doesn't sound like anything's wrong but maybe seat height. If you want to doublecheck things then you could have your LBS evaluate your fit, as their advice would be a lot more accurate than anything given over the internet without seeing your measurements or setup.

one more dumb question: When people describe frame size in cm do they mean length from middle of BB to top tube or middle of BB to top of seat tube?
