BB size
Looked around, checked Sheldon's site. Couldn't really find any answers.
What is the measurement for the BB. There's the shell which I get but whats the other dimension. I'm looking at maybe getting a new one for my Lager but don't know what size to get. Pake track cranks and stock hubs. |
example: 68x110mm
68=shell diameter 110= spindle length dunno what you need for pakes though. |
The other dimension is the spindle length. Various lengths will give you different chainlines. And different cranks will result in a different chainline with the same spindle length.
I'd venture a guess that a 68x103 or 68x109 bottom bracket will give you a decent-enough chainline, depending on if you put the chainring on the outside or inside of the crank. |
Yeah I run a 70(italian) x 107mm BB and it gave me a near-perfect chainline. Somewhere in the 103-111mm spindle length range is usally appropriate for fixed gear.

Awesome, thanks all.
Its got a 110 on it now so I might just stick with it and figure it out when the Pake comes in. |
Change of plans. I'm looking at getting the a Sugino RD instead. Benscycle recommends a 103mm for a 45mm chainline. My current BB is a 110mm (the stock on the Lager). Do I need to get a 103mm for a straight chainline?

If the crank lets you install the chainring on the inside, your existing bb should be fine. If you or the crank require that the chainring be installed on the outside, then you'll want to get the bb with the shorter spindle.
