Don't take your eyes off that chain, not even for a second :)

Don't blame Rumsfeld....

pitboss 05-16-04 04:05 PM

That is why the chain comes off first, then gets cleaned. Then replaced. Then celebratory beer(s) is/are consumed.

dabern 05-16-04 05:28 PM

Well, Rumsey would have you think he had nothing to do with it...

Fugazi Dave 05-16-04 05:31 PM

At least he wasn't cleaning naked, else the tip of something else might have gotten removed...

There is an old urban myth about being able to tell if somebody is a long time track racer by the lack of the ends of one or more fingers that unfortunately is often true. It also, unfortunately, applies to butchers and carpenters and all other power tool users. Get well.

..so how exactly did this happen...I"m pretty squeamish..so as soon as I saw the first pic..I closed it...fill me in ;)

p3ntuprage 05-17-04 09:24 AM

i keep accidentally almost chopping off the end of left index finger while cooking.

it's one of the hazards of compulsively sharpening my knives.

one day this is really going to suck.

You're more likely to cut yourself with a dull knife, in my experience. If you do it while chopping, try crooking your index finger so the blade get supported by your second knuckle on the index finger. That way, your finger tip is always out of the way. If you almost chop off your finger using a measuring cup or grinding pepper, your'e on your own.

Cheers

jfmckenna 05-17-04 01:19 PM

" hey ma whats for dinner? "

robertsdvd 05-17-04 01:21 PM

Heh, I just sold that guy a pair of pedals last week, said he was doing well. His doc gave him the go ahead to ride.. so he rode over to pick up the pedals... so at least he's back on the saddle..

Jonny B 05-17-04 01:26 PM

So one average, one out of twenty people on this board know that bloke. That means he know roughly 300 million poeple. Popular guy :D

OneTinSloth 05-17-04 04:51 PM

here are more pictures of the missing digit...slightly more gruesome.

More cuts with a sharp knife, messier and harder to stitch up with a dull knife.
P.S., p3ntuprage, finger tips grow back, usually.

I think that depends on what you mean by "tip" -- I've met several people
who have done the kind of damage this thread is observing and never
grew any of it back. If you're just talking about slicing a little of the skin
off, I suppose it's possible.

Damn it's gross though!
