There's nothing like...

...relubing your chain, inflating your tires to proper PSI, and taking a 2am spin on an empty, freshly paved road.

I had forgotten why I liked bikes over the past winter. Now I remember.

Night riding is great, especially in the summer. Can't wait.

Raiden 03-30-09 07:29 PM

Definitely in agreement. Some of my favorite rides have been through downtown, right after the coffee shops close up and they kick everyone out, riding down the middle of the road between 30-story buildings with nobody in them :]

+1

It's almost as good as passing 50 cars stuck in traffic jam

PluperfectArson 03-30-09 08:09 PM

I seem to ride home way later than I expect every night, and it is always enjoyable.

Except for last night, this huge Ford truck honked at me while I was climbing a hill for no reason.

dervish 03-30-09 08:50 PM

the main street near my house is getting re-paved this week. i cant wait until theyre done, ill be all over that hill the night that they open it up :D

brandonspeck 03-30-09 08:52 PM

Oh lawdy. I love the sights smell of the hot city in the summertime when I'm riding through traffic. Especially at night, wearing just a t-shirt. I think that's the one of the best rewards to getting around on a bike, is you get to smell and feel everything.

I can't wait to be back on the Denver streets this summer.

This thread makes me wish I never moved. :P

Reminds me of the guy with the Mustang Shelby GT500 that revved at me in traffic as I blew by him. Nothing like dropping $50,000 on your 500 horsepower car only to see a kid on a $300 Windsor Clockwork speed by you.

Mistawes 03-31-09 12:42 PM

Yeh, definitely in agreement here! I'm normally doing it locked but I'm waiting for the temps to rise before doing it again, can't wait! Need to find/build some trick lighting to be seen tho!

Has anyone else tried that trick of when you're on the long walk home, you close yours eyes and take a mental image of what's ahead, opening them now and again to remove yourself front hedgerows.. On a bike?

Found myself on the other side of a main road one night, having come from the far curb! Bit more wary after that, don't hold them as long anymore.. But it's like a personal time machine! :P

I'm sure you had a perfectly good reason to be climbing that hill. :p

There is nothing like.....

Riding all winter on heavy bike with fat studded tires, then finally taking the track bike once the roads are clear...

...then have 3 more snow storms after you get tempted with spring :)

howl 03-31-09 03:16 PM

sunday mornings. no traffic.

This, or riding home from a friend's house at 3am in some light rain with a backpack full of homebrew and a belly full of homebrew.

Night riding is what got me hooked on cycling. Thank you Midnightridazz

Yo! 09-28-09 03:09 PM

We have a jogging trail here in Dallas called the Katy trail, and it's totally paved and smooth with 2 lanes. It literally runs from behind my house straight to downtown, so it's like a bicycle highway.

One of the most memorable rides I ever had was just mashin down this trail with 3 other very strong riders in a perfect single file line at 2am. We must have been cruising the whole time at about 20mph; there's no lights on the trail after dark, and it's really nerve racking bc someone could easily jump out of a bush and rob you, but it was still just a completely flowing ride to an empty downtown.

elTwitcho 09-28-09 03:17 PM

I organize 50-70km rides every week leaving at 11:00pm and going into the early morning. I'm tired as **** for work the next day but we have the roads to ourselves, it's beautiful

I like this idea, a lot.

<3 this thread. Nothing makes me happier than cruising through downtown streets after all the bars have closed.

Graphite_Brawle 09-28-09 07:26 PM

every Wednesday Me and 3 other guys go for a night ride starting at around 9pm. Usually 15-25 Hilly miles, and its the best part of my week for sure. 4 fixed gears sweating like mad and cruising around.

TheBikeRollsOn 09-28-09 09:19 PM

I just cleaned and relubed my chain. It's so smooth, I love it. Plus I'm thinking about putting together an overnight bike ride. Only problem is worrying about drunk drivers as I live in a college town with hardly any bike paths/lanes.

vec 09-28-09 11:13 PM

+1 on riding at night.... especially now in this crispy fall weather, it is cool, quiet, and just plain fun. i just can't stop riding once i start..... we have nice rolling hills here so that i can use momentum from one hill to the next. it is a beautiful thing.

feetpower 09-28-09 11:21 PM

i just found my perfect bar/seat drop and seat angle.... SWEET SPOT!!!!!!!!! i rode all over with a big dumb smile on my face. the ride is 1000000x better now!! still need to test it for longer rides....
